The Baggies have been spotted watching Bytom, who have four players being tracked by teams across Europe.

A Bytom spokesman said: "West Bromwich Albion are frequent visitors to our matches. They've been here quite a few times recently, at least five times according to our records."

Four Bytom players, midfielders Rafal Grzyb and Marcin Radzewicz, striker Michal Zielinski and Slovakian defender Peter Hricko, are attracting interest from a host of clubs.

All four are out of contract at the end of the season, fuelling speculation that Bytom could be forced to cash in during the January transfer window to ensure some return on the quartet.

But club president Damian Baryla insisted there have been no offers so far.

He said: "There is growing interest in these players, because all four can leave in June. I don't particularly want to sell before then."

Bytom would need to finish in the top five of the Polish Ekstraklasa league – which would net them a much higher windfall from the performance-related TV rights package – to stand any realistic chance of keeping the players.

Albion are weighing up targets for the January transfer window with Romania international defender Gabriel Tamas still on their shortlist. The Auxerre player, who is on loan at Dinamo Bucharest, has been watched by head coach Roberto Di Matteo.

But one-time Baggies target Sol Campbell now looks to be heading to Newcastle after the player and Magpies boss Chris Hughton confirmed a deal was on the cards.

Campbell, who is trying to negotiate his way out of his contract with Notts County, confirmed: "I have had talks with Chris Hughton."
