Wolves and Albion will join forces to show their support for the nationwide Poppy Appeal by wearing commemorative shirts.

The Baggies' red away kit has been embroidered with poppies for the trip to Leicester tomorrow and the shirts will be auctioned next week to raise funds for the Royal British Legion, while Wolves will wear similar shirts for their tea-time clash with Arsenal.

Albion were one of the first teams in the country to wear poppies on their shirts and the same initiative last year combined with a bucket collection at the Hawthorns raised more £11,000.

Captain Scott Carson said: "It's only right that the club and players get behind such a great cause.

"We only have to watch the news each day to see how vital the work of the Royal British Legion is and I hope the shirts attract plenty of big bids.

"The club and supporters raised more than £11,000 for the Poppy Appeal a year ago and it would be terrific if we can match or even top that amount."

Jo Trezise, Birmingham community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion, said: "I am delighted that we have had such a great relationship with West Bromwich Albion, who continue to be so incredibly supportive."

Albion's players will sign their shirts and bidding will take place on the club's website next week.

This is the first time Wolves have marked the Poppy Appeal in this way and the emblem will appear next to the club badge on the shirts.

Each shirt will be signed by the player wearing it before it will be auctioned off to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. More details regarding the auction will be announced next week on the club's official website.

A collection was held for the Poppy Day appeal at the game with Villa and funds for the Help the Heroes charity will be collected at the Arsenal game by members of the 4 Mercian Regiment who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Arsenal have independently decided to have poppies on their shirts.
