The Hong Kong businessman, who has bought control at Blues from Gold and David Sullivan, has formally unveiled his new board of directors at a press conference.

Gold has been at St Andrew's for 16 years, 12 of those as chairman, and developed a strong bond with the club but now hopes to see Yeung take it forward to greater success.

The former boss said: "I will follow Birmingham City for the rest of my life. I'm really hopeful Carson is going to take the club to the next level and bring great joy to Birmingham City's fans.

"Whenever I have spoken to his aides they have assured me money is going to be made available in the transfer window.

"The fans will hope that is going to be the case and I certainly hope that is the case."

Yeung first tried to take over at Birmingham two seasons ago, but a deal collapsed and the club were subsequently relegated from the Premier League.

They bounced back at the first attempt by winning promotion last season and Gold believes the club is in good shape as it changes hands.

The outgoing chairman is also confident Yeung has the credentials to take the club forward.

He said: "Proof of funds is the first thing the board needs to establish. We established that and that Carson Yeung's business empire was substantial.

"It's then for the Premier League to go into fine details."
