The pair have scored six goals in six starts together and have impressed with the way they have gelled since Byfield's August return.

The 33-year-old said: "I do think we'll be the best and that's not putting any pressure on any of us.

"If we keep on playing as well as we are we'll scare the life out of defenders. Our aim is to scare defenders and I always have a look at them after 10 minutes and how they react to us.

"At the moment we're on top of them."

Byfield's form after his return will soon have fans calling for the Saddlers to offer him a contract extension beyond January, but the player insists he isn't concerned about his future yet.

He said: "I'm not thinking about that, I'm thinking about getting Walsall as far up the league as I can, scoring goals and helping Troy as well.

The former Villa youngster also holds Deeney, who also has three goals, in high regard. "

He said: "Troy has so much potential he can go anywhere. He is a very good player, works extremely hard, is good in the air, has a change of pace and scores goals. He'll have a bright future as long as he keeps listening – which he does do."

Dwayne Mattis and Steve Jones have scored goals from midfield in the last two games and Byfield believes that trend must continue if they want success.

The forward added: "Strikers are paid to score the goals, but everyone has to chip in and help us," he added.
