Dwayne Mattis has called for his Walsall team-mates to follow his goalscoring lead.

The midfielder netted his first of the season against Huddersfield on Tuesday.

He said: "We've got to be contributing from all over the team. We can't just rely on Troy Deeney and Darren Byfield to be scoring goals, it's got to be coming from everyone and I'm looking to contribute more goals."

And he revealed manager Chris Hutchings had urged him to find his scoring boots this week.

He said: "Tuesday was the first time he ever said it to me. He said 'I want you to get a few more shots in, a few more goals'. I had a good chance in the first-half which I should have took. That was easier than the goal I scored."

Mattis has captained the Saddlers in the absence of Mark Hughes this season and has been happy with his form so far.

He said: "I've been pleased with it. I think there's a bit more consistency in there and I'm hoping to keep it up."
