The Saddlers boss eyed former Wigan winger Alan Mahon, defender Ian Breckin and striker Jason Price - who were all free agents - but lost out to Tranmere, Chesterfield and Millwall.

Fans are frustrated at the lack of transfer activity, with former Northampton skipper Mark Hughes the only signing.

Now Hutchings has released new names to show the club's ambition to sign top players.

He said: "We were interested in all these sort of players, which shows the ambition of this football club and we are still trying to get players in.

"We were in the hunt for these players. We're talking to players, we've got people in who we are looking at.

"We've got Hughesy in but it doesn't always happen overnight."
