England last night made it through to Monday's Under-21 European Championship final against Germany but there was heartbreak for Gabby Agbonlahor and Joe Hart.
The Villa striker and Blues keeper both picked up bookings during the penalty shoot-out semi-final win over Sweden, ruling them out of the final, along with Fraizer Campbell who was sent off.
Agbonlahor said: "I'm disappointed. It was the same ref who gave me the first yellow and if you look back at them, they are both harsh. Three of us are suspended but we have a good squad and we will be fine."
Martin Cranie, Nedum Onuoha and an own goal from Mattias Bjarsmyr had given England a 3-0 half-time lead but Sweden staged a stunning second-half comeback where Marcus Berg scored twice and Ola Toivonen added another.
Despite James Milner missing his spot-kick, Hart's save and Guillermo Molins hitting the post meant England were finally able to celebrate a semi-final penalty shoot-out win. England boss Stuart Pearce said: "This is only a semi-final. The game on Monday is the one. We have come to win it, and we have one team standing in our way. It is the furthest I have been. It is now down to who has the guts to win it."
Pearce will also appeal Hart's yellow card, picked up during the penalty shoot-out.
