No fear of big guns for Weston

Walsall defender Rhys Weston has issued a warning to League One's fallen greats by insisting - "you don't scare us."

The Saddlers face three of the promotion favourites in their first six games of 2009-10 after the release of the fixtures yesterday.

After the August 8 opener at Brighton, they entertain Leeds on the 18th before going to Charlton on the 22nd and Norwich on September 5.

But defender Weston insists the Saddlers aren't afraid of the former Premier League teams.

He said: "There are some big teams in the division but irrespective of the history or the stigma attached it's 90 minutes, 11 versus 11 and in the same division.

"We proved last season we can compete with the bigger teams. We beat Leeds at home and MK Dons away.

"Anything can happen and everyone is capable of beating everyone."

The Saddlers also face Southend and newly-promoted Gillingham at home on August 15 and 29 respectively.

Weston knows the importance of a good home record after winning just 20 of their last 52 games at the Banks's Stadium.

He added: "For us, home form is going to be vital because it was very disappointing last season.

"If you get it right you're going to be in with a chance."
