The 48-year-old was appointed on Friday and follows the Saddlers boss to the Banks's Stadium, after spells with him at Wigan and Derby.

Hamilton said: "To come and work for Chris again is great. Hopefully I'll give Walsall what I've given to my last two clubs.

"There is a great relationship between myself and Chris. We've travelled up and down the country together for the last seven years.

"We work well together and when he invited me on board it was marvellous for me. I just can't wait to get started.

"When Chris invited me down for a few days to have a look at the place, my first impression was that it was a first class facility.

"When I first joined Wigan back in 2002, their training facility was nowhere near as good as Walsall's."

A former Rochdale assistant and caretaker manager, Hamilton will also help Hutchings and assistant Martin O'Connor coach the first team.

He said: "I haven't been involved in training for a while but it is something I'm looking forward to. I have all my badges so that is something else I can bring to the table.

"I saw Walsall play four times last season under Chris - two at home and two away - which was very beneficial, as it gave me an insight into the players and the club.

"Now I'm here full-time, I'm really, really pleased and can't wait to get started."

The former Blackburn and Burnley player also confirmed he is after another scout to cover the south, while he focuses on the north and Midlands.

He added: "It is a varied role that will see me watching FA Premier Reserve League football and keeping an eye on the lower leagues.

"I have done every job in football from playing, coaching and managing, but really enjoy the scouting side of things."
