The big guns target the Civic
The boxing forces of the West Midlands will combine for a bumper card of action in front of the Sky cameras at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
Former WBF champion Marcus Portman makes his return to the ring next Friday night after an 11-month absence aiming to emulate stablemate Young Mutley's return to glory.
Mutley stands at the cusp of regaining his British welterweight title, after finally being granted a shot at reigning champion Kell Brook at York Hall in Bethnal Green on May 22.
At 30 years old, Portman is another boxer from West Bromwich who has been there and done it, now the light-middleweight aims to hit the road back to success.
His last bout ended with defeat in his quest to become the Commonwealth champion, after he was stopped in six rounds by Bradley Pryce at the NIA in Birmingham.
The tricky southpaw has swore revenge ever since and not only does he intend to return to former glories, he intends to do it in style.
He said: "I have got a lot to prove this year and that is my aim. I am not just going to win this time, every time I fight I am going to win in style. You are going to see a pressure fighter now, with a bit more excitement.
"I have actually been back training since November and have been bang at it ever since. After seeing what Mutley is doing, it has given me heart and is great for the town."
The bill will also host a Black Country derby, as Stourbridge's Kevin McCauley takes on Warley's Jason Welborn in the welterweight division.
It will be Welborn's first fight since December 2006 but he has a good track record over three fights, with two knockout wins.
But McCauley has warned him he will not be coming to lose.
He said: "He can go, I know that, but he will need to against me. I want to impress at the Civic, it's a great venue and he can expect a good fight."
Wolverhampton's Rob Kenney also ends an eight-absence from the ring on the show.
Birmingham's Don Broadhurst will defend his Commonwealth super-flyweight title in the main event, while welterweights Swindon's Jamie Cox and Telford's Mark Lloyd slug it out in a British title eliminator in the chief support bout.
Dudley's English middleweight champion Darren McDermott will also aim to send a message to Commonwealth champion Darren Barker ahead of their showdown at the Watford Coliseum on May 23, in a Civic special warm up bout.
