The 27-year-old steps into the ring for the first time at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall a week tomorrow chomping at the bit to get started.

By day, the light-welterweight is a personal trainer at Fitness First in Wednesbury, fitness is his business.

When work finishes the real training begins, sparring full bouts at the gym to make sure nothing is left to chance on the big night.

So six, eight, ten rounds, whatever the case may be, Doodey will not be found wanting for energy.

He said: "My job helps me to be super fit, I am exercising night and day, which can only help me in the professional ranks. I train for eight to 10 rounds every time I step in there, I want to be as fit as I can possibly be.

"I am a hard hitter as well, not just a nice little boxer, with good timing and accuracy. If I can hone those tools and fight to that standard at the Civic next week, I am sure I will do well.

"I want to put on a good show when I make my debut."

Doodey boasts a decent amateur record as he makes the jump to professional, a three-time Midlands Area amateur champion and a two-time national semi-finalist.

At age 27, there will be no time to waste in his first year, the light-welterweight knows he has to "hit the ground" running.

And that's just fine by the Tipton debutant.

He said: "I have been ready to get in there for a fortnight, it's just about maintaining that level now.

"I feel a million dollars, this is a great time to become a professional boxer in the Black Country but I know I need to hit the ground running quickly.

"My goal is to be talked about at British title level next year. That's a long way ahead, but I am not as young as some of the fighters so I need a goal to work to.

"That would be a dream come true for me."
