Glory coach Dave Mitchell has confirmed the A-League outfit were interested in securing the services of the former England striker, who has only recently returned to action after being sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Mitchell also revealed he was preparing to meet either Phillips or his agent during an upcoming trip to England, when he would watch the 35-year-old in action against Wolves on April 6.

Talking of the club's interest in Phillips, Mitchell said: "That's not a rumour, that's a fact. He's under contract but I have made some enquiries about him and he's a good player.

"He'd be a great asset."

Birmingham chairman David Gold has insisted he is unaware of any interest from the Australian club and an official statement released by Blues confirmed they have no interest in selling their leading goalscorer, who penned a two-year deal only last summer.

The statement read: "Birmingham City FC can confirm that they have received no approach from any club regarding Kevin Phillips, and will not welcome any."
