Mutley pulled from eliminator
West Bromwich welterweight Young Mutley has been pulled from Saturday's British title eliminator against John O'Donnell with flu.
West Bromwich welterweight Young Mutley has been pulled from Saturday's British title eliminator against John O'Donnell with flu.
The 32-year-old has one more hurdle to overcome in his quest for the chance to regain the title, which he lost to Kevin Anderson in 2006 after a near one-year reign.
Dispatching of O'Donnell on Saturday at Nottingham's Ice Arena would have obligated the champion to meet Mutley, with Kell Brook the current incumbent.
Mutley will now have to wait for his chance, although the fight has been postponed rather than cancelled. It must take place, whatever happens.
But the Black Country will be represented on the East Midlands show, Walsall's Martin Gethin making the first defence of his English Lightweight title against Scott Lawton of Stoke.
The former British title contender will be tricky, with 24 wins out of 29 pro fights so far, one loss to none other than Amir Khan.
