The light-middleweight hopes to add the British Masters title to his stash when he takes on James Doherty in the main event, at a new home for professional boxing in the West Midlands.

Kenney is already the reigning Midlands middleweight champion, having defeated Max Maxwell for the belt at the Tower Ballrooms in Birmingham on September 14.

Another accolade would make what is already a year to remember even better for the 31-year-old, who has only been boxing professionally for a little under two years.

Even the man himself admits he is ahead of schedule.

He said: "It has come quicker than expected. I had originally hoped to compete for a title in early 2009, it just worked out that I got my shot earlier than expected.

"I would have been a fool not to take my chance when it came along and it has all worked out very well for me. I don't want to look too far ahead, but there is plenty left to do in the sport for me.

"For next year, my goals would be to keep stepping up and get myself in a position to compete for an English title."

Kenney's title-winning return, with his star continuing to rise, is the stuff of fairytale. He originally hung up his gloves at the age of 19 after a decent amateur career but, when his cousin Russell Colley took up the sport, he decided to make a return at the age of 28.

Both are now noted additions in what is a very strong 'First Team Promotions' camp and it has been a long journey.

The champion added: "I just want to keep improving. There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day at the moment, it is a very busy time.

"I am fit and ready for this fight and you will see that at the Venue."

Tickets are priced at £30 and £50. The £50 ticket includes a table seat, full Indian meal and a drinks service, although advanced seats are only available for a short period.
