New boy Hillox a model pro

Male model Quinton Hillox makes his professional boxing debut at Dudley's 'the Venue' on November 29 aiming to preserve his best features.

The born in Florida, raised in Dudley and now resident in Brierley Hill light-middleweight enters the pro ranks on Saturday week, on the last 'First Team Promotions' show of 2008.

The youngster's amateur record boasts a number of stoppages, always the sign of a promising fighter, with 14 wins in total out of 20 bouts.

But it is his choice of second job that is odd for a professional boxer and Hillox is aware that could go out of the window - if he does not take evasive action in the ring.

He said: "I can get modelling work, so I would be a fool to turn it down really. It is a good earner for me and not particularly hard work. With that money coming in, I can concentrate on my boxing more.

"I know the modelling could end if I have a bad time boxing, but I am a good fighter. I have never had a black eye or a mark for that matter, so I must be doing something right!

"I have never come out of the ring looking like I have had a fight, put it that way."

Hillox has quite a tale to tell for someone so young, born in sunny Florida before moving to Dudley at aged four. After moving across the area to Brierley Hill, he discovered the Lions Amateur Boxing club.

The rest, as they say, is history.

He said: "I moved back to England when I was four years old. My mum is from the area, so I moved back with her. I grew up in Dudley, so I know the likes of Jamie Ball and Richard Ghent, who are also boxing on the night.

"They are good friends of mine and for all of us to be on the show at 'the Venue' is going to be very special."
