Saville will take title fight to Carey
Steve Saville is ready to fight for the Midlands Area title anyway that opponent Baz Carey wants at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall tomorrow afternoon.
Steve Saville is ready to fight for the Midlands Area title anyway that opponent Baz Carey wants at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall tomorrow afternoon.
The two collide in the main event of the 'Crunchtime at Lunchtime' supercard and the stakes could not be higher, with both boxers vying for the first championship of their career.
Their swords have crossed before, in Saville's compelling comeback bout at the Civic in June after a five-and-a-half year absence. That night belonged to the Wolverhampton slugger, the victor on points, after taking the fight to Carey.
'The Wednesfield Bomber' by nature is a competitor that will come flying out of the traps but he insists that he has trained to change pace if necessary.
Should Carey adopt a sensible approach in his opponent's own backyard, focusing on containment and picking him off, Saville reckons he will be ready.
He said: "I want to be clever with it this time. I think Baz will be more guarded and more cautious, so I need to be able to overcome that. I suspect that it will be more of a boxing match than last time.
"I can take him anyway he wants. If he wants it strong, then I will give it him strong. If he wants to play a game of chess, then we can play a game of chess. If he wants it toe-to-toe, then we can do that as well.
"He is the only British boxer to go the distance with Amir Khan, so I will not take him lightly."
Saville has been training like a demon for the fight, having already completed most of his physical build-up work long ahead of the fight.
As a result, most of his recent work has involved style over substance, meaning he can mix it up in a variety of ways when he steps into the ring.
He said: "I have been training for five hours a day, every day. I really have never been fitter, I feel fantastic. I am ready and you'll see. I can feel myself getting stronger and faster.
"I have been eating nothing but steak to build myself up and I feel ever so strong. Just don't mention carbohydrates, I want to bite into a loaf of bread every time I walk into the kitchen!
"I have never prepared harder for anything and you will see that tomorrow at the Civic."
