Colley takes the Saville mantle

Wolverhampton's Russell Colley steps into Steve Saville's shoes when he faces Tye Williams at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday night.

The light-middleweight competes for the second time in 14 days, after battling to a points win over Chris Brophy earlier this month.

He steps into the ring against a formidable opponent in the Dewsbury slugger, who has 23 pro fights under his belt.

It was Saville who was originally supposed to fight for the second time this month, until he suffered cuts en route to victory against Chris Long at the Civic on September 12.

That was enough for Saville to land an automatic 28-day ban, leaving a void to be filled on the card - until Colley stepped up to the plate.

Colley said: "I feel great after the Brophy fight, that is why I am so keen to get back into the ring. I was asked to step into Steve's place after he was forced to pull out and I am happy to do it.

"At this stage of my career, I have to take every opportunity I can. I am building myself up to better things, that is why I am doing it. I will get in there and do my best. I am fit and strong enough to be able to hack it."

Looking ahead, Colley is modest when thinking about his future aspiriations.

He said: "I the future, I would love to compete for a major title. For now, I am just happy to carry on learning and climb the ladder.

"The Brophy fight was a step up for me and this fight is another step up. I am consistently in there with good quality opponents, that can only be good for my development."
