Saville to be given title shot

Steve Saville's compelling points win over Chris Long in the main event at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall only told half of the story.

The win came at a price for 'the Wednesfield Bomber,' as he was cut en route to victory. This automatically ruled him out of his next planned bout, at the Civic on the Rob Hunt v Arik Malek under card in 13 days time.

Indeed, he was slapped with a 28 day ban immediately after the fight - as he was receiving stitches in the changing room.

But it is since come to light that Saville has something more promising on the horizon, a shot at the Midlands Area title. The 31-year-old has never won a title before but has competed for that particular belt, losing on points to Gavin Down a year before his retirement in 2002.

Now three fights into his comeback, the light-welterweight has another big fight in front of him, which is pencilled in to take place at the Civic on November 9.

His opponent? The man he beat in his comeback bout: Baz Carey.

Saville said: "I can't wait. Baz wants the title and so do I. It is going to be a fight to remember at the Civic. It's gonna pound me for eight weeks now training to be ready but trust me I will be.

"Everything happens for a reason. I am disappointed not to be able to fight my planned bout later this month, especially because I am in the best physical condition of my life.

"When I fought Gavin Down, I was not fit. Now I am a different person and a different beast. I will take some stopping."
