They were jolted after just a minute, when Scunthorpe took the lead through Garry Thompson.

The game changed in their favour just nine minutes later. David Mirfin, making his debut for Scunthrope after being signed midweek from Huddersfield, clipped Jabo Ibehre on the edge of the area.

After he had made the mistake that gave the Walsall striker possession, he was shown the red card. From the free kick, Marco Reich scored the equaliser on his first full start. It was the boost Walsall needed then they pushed forward.

After going close on several occasions, it was not until two minutes before time until they finally netted the winner. Again Ibehre was involved, playing a superb one-two with Ishmel Demontagnac before hitting his second goal.

Walsall then had to endure six minutes of added time before they could celebrate their win.
