Kristzian TimarWolves defender George Elokobi has apologised to fractured-skull victim Kristzian Timar and revealed he has kept in touch with the Plymouth defender.

Timar was left with a hole the size of a £2 coin following a sickening aerial clash with left-back Elokobi in Wolves' 1-0 win last weekend.

The Hungarian defender underwent surgery after being left with damage to his head, nose and cheek after heading the back of Elokobi's head in the accidental clash.

But Elokobi has said sorry and been to visit Timar – who can't head a ball for five months – and plans to stay in touch as he recovers from the injury.

"I took his number from one of the

Plymouth coaching staff," said Elokobi. "I didn't ring him immediately but sent him a text message saying how unfortunate an accident it was and that I was sorry for what had happened to him.

"I then rang him and spoke to him on Monday.

"All he could remember was heading the back of my head, and I knew that because I had a bump on the back of my head.

"He needed surgery, which I wouldn't wish on anybody, but he agreed it was an accident.

"I think he was happy I called and while he's going to be out for a couple of months, hopefully that will be it.

"I'll keep in touch and call him from time to time to see how he's getting on. I'll be speaking to him again and hope he recovers quickly.

"I wouldn't wish that on any footballer and hopefully he'll recover quickly."

Elokobi admitted the clash seemed so innocuous at the time that he ran away thinking the game would continue.

"I thought he was OK, which is why I ran straight back to my position," said the Cameroon-born defender.

"I didn't know the extent of it until the stretcher came on and I went back and saw the blood.

"I'm not one that goes in with my elbow when I'm heading the ball – I always go with my head – and I wasn't even watching him. I was just going for the ball."
