Midfielder Dave Edwards today warns fans the Championship run-in could get "ugly" as Wolves' promotion hopes reach crunch point.
Frustrated by Tuesday's Molineux postponement, Wolves head for Saturday's tough Crystal Palace clash needing to build bridges with disgrunted fans.
Molineux's hierarchy has responded to the growing unease encircling the club by offering staunch support for manager Mick McCarthy and pleading for more patience from supporters.
But the pressure is now on McCarthy's largely young team of which Shrewsbury-raised Edwards is one of the most recent recruits.
And he says: "When the fans get on your back you have to stand up and be counted – and I'd like to think I'm man enough and strong enough to do that.
"Of the two games I've played at home we got a good result against Sheffield Wednesday and at times we played some decent stuff against Stoke.
"The result though wasn't good, and maybe we were a bit naive at times in not shutting up shop when we should have done.
"The fans have been great to me so far and have got as much right as anyone to voice their opinion.
"But the last few games haven't been good enough, we know that.
"I think we've got the mental strength to deal with the pressure.
"But it might come to a point where it won't be pretty or eye-catching football, we just need the three points."
• Wolves have re-arranged their home match against Scunthorpe for March 18 (7.45pm).The game was postponed on Tuesday because the under-soil heating failed.
