The Dutch striker signed a two-and-a-half year contract after a £200,000 deal had been agreed with Apeldoorn.

MacDonald believes he can bring his quality to other areas as he competes for a place among Albion's logjam of strikers.

"My quality as a player is to run past people," said the 23-year-old.

"As a striker you can do that, but you can also do that on the left and it's a role I enjoy. I can see myself playing there. I like that role.

"At the moment I'm happy because the players and the team are both doing well so I have to wait for my chance.

"But I'm someone who needs games and the more I get, the more I will improve.

"The last year I've learned a lot about English football and I'm still learning. I hope this year I can bring my quality forward.

"It's different to where I've played before. Football in England is so much faster than anywhere in the world.

"So it's always going to be harder to play here, but I'm trying to adapt."

MacDonald revealed Albion won the race for his signature over several other clubs.

"There were a few clubs looking at me," he said. "I did well in Holland, so I was confident about that, and a few in England because I'd done well in the reserves.

"But I like it at West Bromwich and wanted to stay here. I didn't really

consider the other clubs as this is where I wanted to stay.

"I like England. It's similar to Holland. Similar weather and a similar country so I feel very at home."
