The brother of Aston Villa's new defender Zat Knight appeared in court today after they were both arrested during a drugs raid.

Carlos Knight was remanded in custody accused of six drug offences at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates' Court.

The brothers were arrested early yesterday in the Erdington area of Birmingham, just hours before Zat was unveiled as Villa's latest signing.

West Midlands Police said Knight, 27, had been freed on police bail following his arrest at an address in Poppy Lane, Erdington.

The player, who joined Villa, his boyhood heroes, from Fulham, made no mention of his arrest during yesterday's press conference at his new club's training ground.

Carlos Knight, aged 26, was remanded in custody to reappear before magistrates in Sutton Coldfield next Wednesday.
