It was revealed today that the he was involved in a fracas outside the trendy Apres bar in Birmingham city centre. He admitted the offence at Birmingham Magistrates' Court. Vinny Bolina, spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service, said today officers were called to a report of criminal damage at the club on April 1. Greening was said to have grabbed the police officer and been sprayed with CS in an effort to restrain him.

He was fined £5,000, ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim and £87 costs. He appeared in court this month, but details only came to light today

Greening, of Sutton Coldfield, came to Albion from Middlesbrough in 2004 after a £1.25m deal by former boss Gary Megson.

The Scarborough-born midfielder started his career at York City before going to Manchester United and spending three years at Old Trafford but only made 13 starts and 14 substitute appearances. He moved to Boro for £2m in the summer of 2001 and spent three years at the Riverside.
