Boertien completed the countdown to his competitive Saddlers debut tomorrow by insisting his new club can challenge for back-to-back promotions - using his old club Carlisle as a blueprint.
But the tough-tackling left-back a warned that a flying start is crucial to the Saddlers' chances of more promotion success.
"Carlisle came up and finished eighth or ninth so it just shows what can be done," said Boertien.
"It should show us that there is nothing to fear and we should try to follow suit.
"We've got nothing to fear coming into this league as champions."
Boertien is one of four Saddlers debutants likely to start tomorrow, with Danny Sonner and Paul Hall poised to make their second debuts after returning to Walsall.
The final debutant is Tommy Mooney, who will make his 700th career appearance on his 36th birthday, looking to move closer to 200 career goals.
He currently has 196 to his name.
