Wednesfield Aces are taking a new look at the 2007 cycle speedway season - with a new rider, new award and even a new track.
The cycle speedway club have realised a 10-year dream by restoring the overgrown circuit at East Park, Wolverhampton.
Tapes will go up on a match for the first time in a decade at 1pm this Sunday when Wednesfield, East Park, Birmingham and Tile Hill battle it out.
The facility will be used as a feeder for the Ashmore Park outfit and will stage training sessions.But it will also host regular Midland League action with East Park playing host to the likes of Birmingham and Sandwell.
Now the club is keen to recruit riders from the East Park area - anyone interested should contact Dave Jewkes on 01902 631469.
This year the Aces will look to build on a hugely successful 2006 campaign, highlighted by their staging of the European cycle speedway championships where Sandwell's Jack Hibberd took the junior individual title.
Lee Aris landed a notable British senior championships double, taking the indoor and outdoor laurels, while Matt Haddock dominated the British under-10 championships.
Wednesfield's efforts on the track will be boosted by the signing of Polish champion Marcin Szymanski, who looked particularly sharp in practice.
"I like the Aces' set-up and we will train harder as a team to win many things," he said. Off-track, Wednesfield have were delighted to receive the prestigious Sport England Clubmark award.
It covers child welfare, coaching, training and community involvement and was presented tot he club by British Cycling's regional manager Nick Yarworth.
Wednesfield have landed a home draw against Norwich in round one of the British Team Championships on Sunday, June 10.
