Villa today announced the appointment of Richard FitzGerald as their new chief executive.
FitzGerald, who will start work for the club from January 1, joins from blue chip sports, entertainment and media group IMG, where he worked for 18 years, lately as senior vice president and head of IMG's new media international business.
The American has worked extensively in the sports media business including four years based in Cleveland, Ohio.
His clients included the Premier League, KNVB, Manchester United, the Wimbledon Championships and the European Golf Tour.
Also joining the club is Robin Russell as chief financial officer. Russell, who was starting today, spent 12 years as chief financial officer of MBNA Europe, the credit card bank.
As CFO, Russell was in charge of financial reporting, treasury and financial planning and analysis at MBNA Europe, the company owned by Villa chairman Randy Lerner.
In a statement, Villa's board said: "We're delighted to welcome Richard and Robin to lead the business activities at Aston Villa.
"Both bring proven professional track records, defined most importantly by commitment and integrity.
"The Villa directors extend them our warmest welcome."
Villa have been without a chief executive since Bruce Langham left in May, 2005.
FitzGerald will run Villa's day to day business, but the double appointment is not expected to affect Steve Stride's position.
Long-serving Stride, who joined the club in 1972, will continue as operations director.
