And residents in Wolverhampton will have been hoping for just that as the natural spectacle was captured over iconic structures in the city.

The stunning images showed the rainbow arching over Molineux and in another shot, the new £6 million Youth Zone was caught with a stunning blue sky and colourful arc behind it.

The building, in School Street, is being spearheaded by outgoing Wolves owner Steve Morgan, and will officially open its doors to hundreds of youngsters on Saturday, providing them with a safe place to meet, as well as offering them a whole range of activities and mentoring.

People also took to Twitter to document the rainbow when it was spotted on Thursday, with a shot of a double rainbow over the University of Wolverhampton posted on the site.

Rainbows are an arc-shaped spectrum of light which are caused by the refraction and reflection of light in water droplets.

They are caused when rays of light from the sun hit water droplets which reflect some of the light back.

When a second, larger, rainbow outside the main one is seen, this is called a 'secondary' rainbow. It is formed by rays of light that are refracted by the raindrop and then reflected inside the rain drop twice.
