Celebrations as great-grandmother turns 101
A great-grandmother who worked in the lock industry for more than 50 years has celebrated her 101th birthday.
Maud Wallis, who was born and grew up in Willenhall, reached the milestone on Wednesday and celebrated with family and friends at Delves Court Care Home, in Walsall, where she has been living for the past two years.
She had previously lived in Wellington Place, Willenhall.
Mrs Wallis was a former Albion Road secondary school pupil and married her late husband Arthur at St Giles's Church in Willenhall in 1929.
He died in 1991, aged 80.
The couple have a daughter, Sylvia, granddaughters Lisa, aged 42, and Maria, 38, and a great grandson, Alfie, seven.
During her working life, Mrs Wallis was a machinist and worked in the lock industry including in firms such as Arthur Shaw and Josiah Parkes & Sons.
Her daughter Sylvia Bullivant, aged 65, said: "She's always been happy go lucky. She was a lively person in the past.
"She didn't stop cycling until she was in her 70s.
"My mum and dad used to go cycling for miles. They would go from Walsall to Wales.
"She also used to do a lot of sewing.
"I think it's brilliant she's 101. I'm happy for her. I think she's a bit shocked and can't quite believe it.
"She's had balloons, decorations, cake and flowers and cards from the care home and family."
