Grand future for Lichfield Cathedral as prayers answered for £3.7m
With its grand medieval architecture, historic stained glass and intricate stone carvings, Lichfield Cathedral is one of Staffordshire's treasures.
And this photograph shows the stunning features that have tourists travelling from across the country.
It comes as an appeal to raise £3.7 million to restore part of the cathedral nears its target – with plans now under way to re-install the Herkenrode stained glass in spring 2015.
Work is being carried out to buttresses to make them safe for at least 150 years and a new clear outer layer of glass should protect the Herkenrode Glass for considerably longer.
All donors to the appeal will be remembered in a book and invited to the grand unveiling.
The interior of the cathedral was extensively renovated in the Victorian era by Sir George Gilbert Scott, with a number of ornate carved figures of kings, queens and saints added.
