Around 30 officers stormed The Globe in New Street, West Bromwich, using a drugs warrant.

Sniffer dogs were also used to search the premises and the police were joined by Customs and licensing officers.

Inspector Akeel Najib, who headed the operation, said the pub now faced having its licence reviewed after a number of breaches of its licensing conditions were discovered.

Inspector Najib said: "We executed a warrant based on intelligence that there were drugs being smoked and sold from the premises.

"We have found several bags of Class A drugs which we believe to be cocaine and heroin.

"There's definitely dealing going on based on the quantity and the fact that they were prepared to sell.

"This is a pub that over the years has declined because of the kind of people that visit the pub.

"The message we are trying to send out is we are not going to tolerate drug use and the sale of drugs.

"We want to reassure the locals that they can come in here."

Inspector Najib added that several bags of drugs, which included cannabis, had been dropped by customers, and there was also evidence of cannabis joints inside the pub.

Swabs in the ladies toilets also revealed an attempt to dispose of what appeared to be cocaine.

Yesterday's operation kicked off with a dawn raid at a home on the Friar Park estate in Wednesbury where a man was arrested for possession with intent to supply. He was cautioned for the offence.

Sniffer dogs were also taken onto buses. A number of people were searched but no arrests were made.

An automatic number plate recognition operation was also carried out at a car park in Axletree Way, close to junction 9 of the M6.

Police stopped 51 cars, nine of which were seized. One man was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and another arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

Two men, aged 28 and 32, were arrested. The 32-year-old was later charged with possession of cannabis and the 28-year-old was given a caution.nextpage
