Crash leads to huge tailbacks

Two women and a child were injured when their car overturned on the M6 motorway in the Black Country today.

There were three-mile tailbacks while work took place to move the overturned Renault Laguna on to the hard shoulder.

The accident happened near Junction 9 at Wednesbury on the northbound side of the carriageway just after 6.15am.

Highways Agency officers had to bring the northbound side of the M6 to a halt while the van was recovered but lanes were open again at 8am. One lane of the entry slip road to the motorway at Wednesbury was closed until 9am while investigations took place. There were queues back to the M5 at Junction 8.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We treated two people at the scene for spinal injuries and conveyed all passengers to Walsall Manor Hospital."nextpage
