"We couldn't believe what had happened," said 39-year-old Pete Bevan today.
"Our hearts sank because the car responsible had been taken away by police, although we didn't know that. It looked like we'd been the victims of a hit-and-run."
The brothers found a registration plate at the scene and, after a little detective work, found it belonged to an Audi they had sold last year.
They checked the details and tried in vain to contact the owner.
"The police were soon round to fill us in on what had gone on. It was a bit of a coincidence that the car was bought from us. It was a nice car which cost about £7,000.
"The person who bought it was a really nice guy who has been in a couple of time since."
Two of the damaged vehicles had been sold and were awaiting collection. A red Alfa Romeo V6 was on its way to Malta and a silver Citroen C2 was due to be picked up by its new owner, from RAF Cosford, later that day.
It is understood a man was arrested at the scene in connection with the crash at 4am on Saturday.
