It is thought spades were used to dig up the turf at Universal Sports Club in Doxey Road, Stafford, and members were left horrified by the extent of the damage which was discovered this morning.
Fears have now been voiced it might not be possible to get it returned to the necessary standard for them to be used again this year.
The club, which has teams playing in Cannock Bowling League, has given CCTV footage to police and is offering a reward of at least £1,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.
Club chairman John Mitchell said he was called out at 7.45am and was shocked to see the scale of the vandalism.
He said: "It appears they have used spades to dig up the turf. The cost of repairing the damage is going to run into thousands of pounds."nextpage
