Housemates: The definitive guide
By now you're first month at university is more than likely finished, and you're starting to figure out which one of your flatmates you want to spend the next two years with, and the flatmate you wouldn't be too disappointed to lose in a Zombie Apocalypse.
Although only the really organised amongst you will start looking for houses for the next two years in October, there's no harm in scanning the market, even though you won't make a decision until February.
To be fair, it's hard as a group of 18 or 19-year-olds going out and finding a suitable house for next year, because so much can change between finding a house and next September.
Friendships fall apart, people drop out of university, and circumstances change, that's just how life works, but sadly, to find the best house you have to look early, because those good quality houses don't stay on the market for long.
But who is best to live with? Take your pick from these categories:
The clean one
Every house needs a clean-freak, someone who's either going to bust chops because the kitchen's dirty, or do it themselves and give you disgusted frowns for the rest of the day.
Look, you know you're as neat as you possibly can be, but sometimes you just forget to do the washing up, that's okay, the clean one will ensure the house is kept in check so you don't have to.
The only downside to the clean one is their OCD will lead to constant nagging at you for inevitably messing up the house again.
The fun one
There's nothing stopping the clean one being fun, but this person is going to be the one with the crazy ideas that keep your life from becoming too monotonous.
Whether it's going out and getting a little too drunk, or staying up all night playing video games, this person is going to keep the good times rolling.
The only downside is they're usually the ones who mess up the house and get on the wick of the clean one first.
The one with everything
Netflix for movie night, Spotify for pre-drinks and house parties, and SkyGo for Super Sunday, we all have the mate who has all the great streaming apps of the 21st century ready and waiting.
This person is handy to have, as they are the entertainment bringer of the house and you can use their subscriptions and not pay the cost! In all seriousness, it's worthwhile finding someone who has subscriptions to things like Netflix and SkyGo, as their content is a great source of entertainment for boring nights in, or mornings after nights out.
The only downside to the person who has everything is everyone else's resentment towards how spoilt by their parents they are.
If you can't find a suitable candidate you could always split the cost of a subscription as a house, which is a couple of pounds per month between you all. Not a bad deal at all!
