5. Shipshape and Bristol fashion: Longlands lads craft fine tribute to lifeboat hero
Examining detailed model lifeboats and project work, 65-year-old Jack Downing admires a special exhibition mounted by pupils at Longlands School in December 1980. To mark Mr Downing’s retirement as chairman of the RNLI’s Stourbridge branch after 20 years - during which annual local fundraising grew from £400 to £7,000 - students created a display of poems, paintings, essays, and models highlighting the lifeboat institute's vital work. Pictured alongside Mr Downing and organising teacher Mrs Margaret Horton are pupils (left to right) Gavin Harper (12), Darren Adams (13), Richard Westwood (12), and Malcolm Riley (12). 6. Key to success as fundraising drive unlocks brand-new school minibus
Holding aloft a giant cardboard ignition key in triumph, eight-year-old Stephen Mills leads the celebrations as classmates gather in the school yard in June 1984. All 350 pupils at Warstones Junior School in Warstones Road, Penn, spent 12 months raising money for the new minibus alongside the school's Parent Teacher Guild. Thanks to events like a sponsored treasure hunt that raised nearly £1,000, the school reached its £6,000 goal, with headmaster Mr Clifford Sansom arranging a special farewell outing for departing fourth-year pupils as a reward for their hard work. 7. Pupils celebrate town's motoring heritage with special anniversary display
Teacher David Whyley stands alongside proud pupils at East Park Junior School in Wolverhampton in April 1985 as they show off their detailed motoring history display. The impressive wall project was created to mark 50 years since the final Sunbeam car rolled off the local production line. As part of the anniversary celebrations, preserved Sunbeam models were brought to the area and former factory workers were invited to share their firsthand memories with the school children. 8. Green-fingered pupils plant 1,000 bulbs for local millennium celebrations
Armed with garden trowels and wooden crates, six enthusiastic pupils from Chadsway Junior School in Wednesfield wrap up warm in November 1985 to help brighten up their local community. Pictured taking part in the massive planting effort are Palvinder Banara, Jagjit Mattu, Ranjit Dhesi, Kulvinder Herr, Nirander Rai, and Makhvinder Khosse. The children teamed up to plant 1,000 spring bulbs as part of a civic scheme to add a burst of colour to the town ahead of its millennium celebrations.
