Work to build a new roof on Molineux's Stan Cullis stand as part of its £16 million redevelopment will be delayed by two months, Wolves revealed today.

High winds are causing difficulties for workers lifting the steelwork into place.

Construction of the new roof is now expected to be complete at the end of February.

It was originally due to be in place by the end of December.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey today apologised to season ticket holders in the stand, who will face an extra four Premiership matches at Molineux without any cover from the elements.

He added: "The wind-related delays are unfortunate but outside anyone's control."

Kevin Underwood, director of contractors Buckingham Group, said the hitch will not have any impact on the project's overall completion date of July, adding: "Very strong winds, which aren't always noticeable at ground level, have slowed progress significantly.

"However, we're doing everything possible to pull time back."

The lower tier of the new 7,700-seater, two-tier stand has already been completed, while parts of the upper tier and some parts of the roof have been installed.

The new-look stand will boost the stadium's capacity from 29,408 to 31,700 when it is opened.
