Wolverhampton city centre street taped off by police as officers set up blue tent

The tent could be seen halfway down the street.

A road has been cordoned off by police in Wolverhampton city centre.

Clarence Street was cordoned off from the junction with Waterloo Road to the junction with Birch Street on Sunday morning, with a blue police tent seen halfway down next to the car park by the Living Waters Church.

Several police cars and police officers were also visible at the scene, with people arriving to attend the church having to be guided away from the scene.

The nearby Potters House Church also sent out a message to warn the congregation that the church would be closed all day.

The message read: “Today’s services are cancelled due to a police investigation outside the building.

“Due to a serious incident, the entrance to Clarence Street and Clarence Road will be closed for the entire day.

“This has been confirmed by police officers stationed at the entrance to Clarence Street. Regular service schedule resumes Wednesday.”

West Midlands Police have been contacted for a comment.
