West Midlands fish and chip shop 'extremely upset' after receiving suspected fake £20 notes

The chippy says it was passed two counterfeit £20 notes by a customer.

A fish and chip shop in Stourport has been left out of pocket after being passed suspected counterfeit £20 notes.

Pat's Fish Bar, in Lombard Street, says it received the two suspected £20 counterfeit notes from the same customer on two separate occasions, both times when buying a can of Coke.

They said the incident has been 'extremely upsetting' and claim that they have CCTV footage of both transactions and that two members of staff recognise the customer involved.

The chip shop is now giving the customer the opportunity to come forward and resolve the matter.

However, if nobody comes forward, it has warned that the footage and suspected counterfeit notes will be given to police.

Making the appeal on social media, a spokesperson for Pat's Fish Bar said: "We really don’t like having to make a post like this, but unfortunately enough is enough.

“We are a small, family-run business and work hard for every penny we earn. Losing £40 to suspected counterfeit notes is upsetting, especially when it happens to a small independent business.

“We are giving the customer the opportunity to come forward privately and put things right before we take the matter further.

“We hope the right thing will be done. Please remember that small businesses are people’s livelihoods, not big corporations who can simply absorb these losses.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to support our little business. Your support really does mean the world to us.”
