'Right direction' - Lee Grant comments on League Two award nomination
The winner for August’s League Two manager of the month will be announced on Friday.
Lee Grant says that his nomination for League Two manager of the month suggests his Walsall team are heading in “the right direction”.
Grant was named among the four nominees for the August award earlier this week. The Saddlers head coach led them to seven points from a possible nine last month following wins over Gillingham and Accrington Stanley and a 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town.
Walsall also pulled off a major upset by beating Championship side Bristol City 1-0 in the Carabao Cup first round at Ashton Gate, although his nomination has been based purely on league form.
‘Right direction’ - Lee Grant on award nomination
“If you give me a choice to be in that shake up or not in the shake up then I’d rather be in it,” Grant replied when asked about his nomination.
“Because it means that the team is pointing in the right direction.”
Grant has been nominated alongside Dean Brennan (Barnet), Danny Cowley (Colchester United) and Scott Lindsey (York City), but felt Bristol Rovers’ boss Steve Evans can count himself unfortunate not to win the award, with his side currently sitting top of League Two.

“If you’re Steve Evans and you don’t win it then you’re certainly disappointed, and I think he absolutely deserves it,” Grant continued.
“But for us, it just means that we’re doing some things OK. There are lots of things that we want to do better and I’ve learned a lot more about the group over the course of my first month in charge.
“I’ve made some mistakes, some that I’ve spoken to the group about in that first month. I hope to take lessons from some of those mistakes and do better in the next month.
“That’s the goal for all of us. Keep improving and see where it takes us.”
