The new store will open on Walsall Road, Walsall Wood, on January 30.

It sits on the former site of the Horse and Jockey pub and will be the first Lidl store to open in the area.

To help mark the occasion, Lidl has announced that a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on the day, with the Lord Mayor of Walsall, Anthony Harris, giving an appearance.

Students at the local Castlefort JMI School will also join the celebration, with the school receiving four weeks' worth of fresh fruit from the discount retailer.

The event will also include Lidl Plus offers and complementary food sampling throughout the weekend.

Talking about the new store Joe Caunt, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented:  "We are thrilled to announce the opening date of our first store in Walsall Wood.

"This project has been a real team effort, and we’ve worked hard to bring our best-value offering to the community. We can’t wait to welcome local residents through our doors in the coming weeks."

Spanning 1,516 metre squared, the store will also be the home of the discounter's bakery section, and provide a boost for the local economy by bringing around 40 new jobs to the area.

The new store on Walsall Road will be open from 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sundays.
