PICTURE FROM THE PAST: Wrekin MP Bill Yates greets a party of 14 boys from Apley Park School, a boarding school which was at Apley Hall, near Bridgnorth, who paddled in canoes all the way from the school to Westminster, by river and canal, a trip of 250 miles. They arrived on June 24, 1964.

Old boys meet for pub reunion

Springfield youth club old boys will be meeting for a Christmas reunion on Thursday, December 18, at The Great Western public house, at 12.30pm.

It will be 61 years ago since we played in the five division of the Wolverhampton Amateur League, which we won, and scored 200 goals in the process.

It was never done before or since, the league gave us a cup for this achievement.

We now meet every year in June for a meal and Christmas for a buffet.

There are only eight of us left on this side of the grass, Heaven has taken its toll.
