'Nice try Dudley Council you're trying, very trying, but at least it's a nice first offer' - Your Letters: July 28
PICTURE FROM THE ARCHIVE: RAF Cosford Museum relies on its team of volunteers to keep operating. They also inform the thousands of visitors who come to the base each year. Richard Perks from Newport is pictured in 2018 at the annual air show, with a Boulton Paul Defiant that was built around 1938.

CUT IN CHARGE IS ONLY A START
Fifty-pence for half an hour parking in Dudley is coming according to the leader of the council, he says because the council have managed to make financial improvements and other offers are being considered.
This is absolutely fantastic news but I would hazard a guess that the change of heart in car parking charges could have something to do with shoppers, visitors and workers having boycotted the car parks when the ridiculous over charging was introduced in October last year of £1.80 for 1 hour £2.50 for two hours. But now we are supposed to rejoice that 50p for 30 minutes. Who on earth when shopping does it in 30 minutes?
So in theory everyone will pay a pound for one hour, but I imagine £1 for one hour will not be the case and the cost will in fact be £1.80 for over 30 minutes. Unless you can do your shopping and dash around like they did on the Benny Hill Show, no one will be paying just 50p.
Nice try Dudley Council you're trying, very trying, but at least it's a nice first offer. Make it 50p for one hour. That really would help the people of the borough.

SINGAPORE CASH IS MISPLACED
Let us consider the situation of that poverty stricken country, Singapore. Maybe we evil colonising Brits owe them a bob or two after bringing it from a bog standard trading place to pre-eminence due to Stamford Raffles, the bloke who spent his spare time building hotels in the Far East.
Foreign secretary David Lammy is in Singapore announcing a new UK-Singapore Green Energy collaboration. As part of the deal, he’s pledged £70 million of UK taxpayers’ money to support Singapore’s “clean energy transition.”
Singapore ranks 4th globally in GDP per capita, according to the IMF. It also contributes just 0.15 per cent of global carbon emissions as of 2022. The country already has a well-developed green agenda through its Green Plan 2030, having doubled its solar capacity since 2020 and frozen growth in vehicle numbers.
