National Highways has issued an update on the M6 closure after a serious HGV crash.

The M6 remains closed in both directions between J1 Rugby and M1/A14 following an earlier collision.

National Highways said in an update: “The southbound carriageway has now reopened, although one lane remains closed to facilitate repairs to the central reservation following damage sustained when the HGV crossed into the reservation.

“The northbound carriageway remains closed while recovery operations continue. The overturned HGV has now been righted onto its wheels, and its load is currently being transferred into a number of tipper trucks to enable vehicle recovery.”

The M6 in Leicestershire/Warwickshire remains subject to restrictions following the serious collision involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV).

The incident occurred shortly before 17:00 yesterday (Sunday 31 May) when an HGV collided with the central reservation and overturned.

All emergency services attended the scene, including the Air Ambulance. National Highways Traffic Officers remain on scene assisting with traffic management and network resilience measures.

Carriageway repair works are underway. Damaged road surface material is currently being planed out in preparation for resurfacing works before the northbound carriageway can safely be reopened.

National Highways adds: “There is currently no estimated time for the full reopening of the northbound carriageway.”
