Trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street will be disrupted this evening due to the incident, passengers have been warned.

An object caught on the overhead line equipment is causing trains between the two busy stations to be delayed by up to 55 minutes.

National Rail has warned that some services could be revised.

Disruption is expected until 8.45pm tonight.

National Rail says affected customers can use their ticket at no extra cost on National Express West Midlands services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street, and Midland Metro between Wolverhampton and Birmingham Snow Hill in both directions until further notice.

It adds: "You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today.

"Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim."

It comes as there is major disruption between Stafford and Wolverhampton which is set to last until 6am tomorrow.

The disruption on this line has been caused due to a fallen tree on the railway between Penkridge and Wolverhampton which caused significant damage to the overhead electric wires.

As a result, trains are not running between Stafford and Wolverhampton and are diverting via alternative routes.

More information on this train disruption can be found on National Rail's website.
