Emergency services scramble to major dual carriageway near University of Staffordshire after concern for man's welfare
A police incident caused traffic disruption on a major dual carriageway near the University of Staffordshire this morning (March 18).
National Highways posted on X (formerly Twitter) that traffic was blocked on the A500 in both directions between the A52 and A50 in Stoke-on-Trent.
Traffic was blocked due to a police incident and emergency services rushed to the scene.
A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service told the Express & Star: "We were called to concerns for a patient’s welfare at the junction of Copeland Street and Glebe Street in Stoke on Trent at 6.43am and an ambulance to the scene.
"On arrival, crews found a man. Once brought to safety, he was assessed by ambulance staff but was not injured and so was discharged at the scene."
The A500 is a major dual carriageway that runs directly through Stoke-on-Trent, and is located near the University of Staffordshire’s main campus.
If you are driving to the university, the A500 provides key access points from the Stoke-on-Trent area.

The route is known for heavy traffic and congestion during peak times.
National Highways has since confirmed that the police incident has now cleared and the A500 has reopened in both directions between the A52 and A50.
However, it still warns of traffic delays.
It says: "There are delays of up to 30 mins above normal travel time remaining in the area so please allow time for delays to clear."
