West Midland Metro service disruption - no trams from Wednesbury to Birmingham until Thursday
Tram users are facing severe disruption until Thursday as trams are unable to operate from Wednesbury to Birmingham, West Midlands Metro said
West Midlands Metro has warned tram users that no services are operating between Wednesbury and Birmingham - until Thursday.
The tram operator has posted several updates on social media since around 5am this morning (Tuesday) warning customers of the disruption.
In its latest post on X at 7am West Midlands Metro said that trams were operating between Wednesbury and Wolverhampton only - and that tickets are acceptable on National Express buses and select West Midlands Railway Services.
In a notice on the West Midlands Metro website, the operator explains that maintenance works are underway from 9.15 on Monday (yesterday) until the end of Wednesday, February 18.
West Midlands Metro said: “Tie-in works will take place to connect the current track to the new Dudley extension. During this time, thefollowing service will be in operation:• Trams up to every 8 minutes between Wednesbury Great Western Street and WolverhamptonStation only.• There will be no services between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Edgbaston Village.
Normal service will resume from the start of service on Thursday 19 February.”
Bus and rail alternative travel options
Here are the alternative travel options outlined by the Metro operators
National Express bus services:o 79 between Wednesbury and West Bromwich*o 74 between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centreo All services between Colmore Row and Edgbaston Village
* The timetable for these services has been enhanced to provide connections for the first and lasttrams.
• West Midlands Railway train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, including FiveWays (season ticket holders only).
A Metro spokesperson added: “We are sorry for any inconvenience that these changes to service may cause and appreciate your patience
“while these essential works are taking place. Another important milestone as we prepare to connect more communities across the region in the future.”
