Motorists left facing delays on M6 as lanes closed due to 'defect'
Motorists heading along the northbound carriageway of the M6 were warned to expect delays due to lane closures.
West Midlands Roads put out a message at 4.40pm on Monday to inform of two lanes being closed on the M6 northbound between junctions 7 for Great Barr and 9 for Wednesbury due to a road surface defect.
It was that congestion was visible as far back as junction 6 for the A38(M) for Birmingham and said that motorists heading northbound should plan their journeys ahead.
A spokesman for West Midlands Roads said: "On the M6 northbound between junction 7 for Great Barr and junction 9 for Wednesbury, two lanes are closed due to a road surface defect.
"Congestion going back to junction 6 for the A38(M). Expect delays, plan your journey ahead."
A later message at 5.55pm informed motorists that the defect had been corrected and all lanes opened up, although there would be some residual delays through the evening.
A spokesman for West Midlands Roads said: "All lanes are now open on the M6 northbound between junction 7 for Great Barr and junction 9 for Wednesbury.
"There are still some residual delays on the approach, however this should begin to ease soon."
