Good news for West Midlands rail as CrossCountry to run normal service on Saturdays in December after strike called off
Rail travellers have been given some good news after a planned industrial action by a rail union was suspended.
CrossCountry customers are being advised that a normal service will now operate this Saturday, December 6, and subsequent Saturdays in December, following the suspension of planned industrial action by the RMT union.
CrossCountry said Saturday was expected to be a busy day for many town and city centres across the network, with planned engineering work and Christmas events meaning busier trains than usual.
In particular, this Saturday will see CrossCountry services between Derby and the North East and Scotland extended by up to an hour due to engineering work in the Chesterfield area.
The rail provider calls at Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton and Stafford within the West Midlands and CrossCountry’s Managing Director, Shiona Rolfe, said it was good to be able to run a normal timetable.

She said: “We are pleased that RMT has called off planned strike action throughout December, and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board to take them into the festive season.
"We aim to run our normal timetable on Saturday, but the short time available to reinstate services means there may be some short-notice cancellations.
“Engineering work on parts of the network will still mean some changes to journeys, so if you’re planning to travel, please check your journey before setting off.”
Passengers planning to travel with CrossCountry throughout December and into the Christmas period should check their journey with National Rail Enquiries or on the CrossCountry website.
