Lines between Stafford and Wolverhampton stations reopened after emergency services clear 'major incident' from track
Emergency services have dealt with a major incident on the train tracks in the West Midlands.
The issues had meant all lines between Stafford and Wolverhampton stations were blocked, but shortly after 8am it was announced that things would slowly go back to normal.
Network Rail's West Coast Main Line account on X posted just before 7am on Thursday, October 2 saying there is a: "Major disruption between Stafford & Wolverhampton while the emergency services respond to an incident at Penkridge.
However, at 8.05am they posted an update saying: "Emergency services are leaving the scene & the lines are reopening. Residual delays may occur as we look to recover service."
Cross Country and Avanti West Coast both warned customers that cancellations and delays should be expected following the disruption.
Some services offered rail replacement buses between Wolverhampton and Stafford, but now hope normal train services will be able to run.
Commuters are still advised to plan well in advance for any journeys they need to make, and check timetables regularly.
British Transport Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
